Sprinkler Blowouts For Wednesday, October 30, 2019

Yesterday did not go as well as we would have liked.  Jesse’s truck broke down while working in Nampa, so I had to pull Jacob off his Meridian route to pick up his route, and in doing so we didn’t finish the area as planned.  We will spend another day in the 83651 and start the 83687 at the same time.  This will throw us off schedule a little, but I hope we can get back on track within a few days.

I hope everyone with a backflow preventer has taken necessary precautions and pre-winterized the assemblies to protect them from the unseasonably cold weather we are currently having.  That goes for emptying above ground filters, draining pumps, etc.  This cold snap won’t last and it will be warming up again late this week I believe.

We start later in the morning when the temperature has dropped to the teens to give it a chance to warm up a little.  Not because of sprinkler systems, because anything underground is safe until mid-December usually, but many do not heed our warning and follow the instructions given on winterizing so we run into frozen galvanized piping that is above ground.  When that happens, we have to heat up the pipe with a torch to melt the ice so we can get to the good stuff underneath.  Also, compressors do not handle the cold very well.  Sprinkler systems do much better than compressors.  When pushing air, condensation can build up in our hoses and freeze giving us no air pressure to work with.  I usually take the end of my hose and put it on the exhaust of my compressor and it melts quickly.  Even with that it is a pain in the neck and wastes time we do not have to spare.  We will wait until around 10 a.m. to start today and see what happens.

We prepaid for a service through Weedman, and they say you do their sprinkler blowouts. When are you going to be doing 83713?

We don’t do THEIR sprinkler blowouts actually. They had a sub-contractor doing them for a few years and decided they didn’t want the hassle anymore dealing with sprinkler services so they looked around for the most qualified company in the area and chose us. They gave us the names of all the current sprinkler system customers, but we have to have our own form filled out for services because we are not connected with Weedman. If you have signed up, check our calendar as to when we will be in your area again. Keep in mind we do need to make changes to the calendar, so check back on it frequently

I’m in 83651 and haven’t seen anyone today or yesterday

You haven’t seen anyone yet because you signed up a day after we had already left that zip code for the first round. We will be back, but it will be a few weeks or so as we make our second trip around the valley

When do you plan on being back in 83709? Thanks, Emily

On the dates our calendar shows for the most part. I do need to make some adjustments because of some system issues as well as vehicle issues while in Nampa.

Had my backflow device replaced this year and today water was just spewing upwards in a large flow amount. Not sure why my new device has failed and not sure what should be done for my backflow currently. The water is cut off on the backflow device to prevent an ice sculpture.

    Thank you

Sorry to hear that happened to you. I noticed you just put in your request on October 30. These unseasonably cold temperatures have made it impossible for sprinkler blowout companies that are already overbooked get to them all in a timely fashion. What has likely happened is the assembly froze and broke from the cold temperatures we had last night. I wish you had signed up with us earlier and we could have given you instructions on how to avoid that from happening while you are waiting on a sprinkler blowout. To avoid further damage, please check out the page on our site on how to pre-winterize your backflow preventer.
