There are some interesting trends regarding our cancellations.\u00a0 Right now 96% of all cancellations we have received this season so far are new customers. Our “regulars” know how we do things and stick it out because they understand how our system works and how the weather affects sprinkler systems in this valley.\u00a0 What is interesting is the number of cancellations fluctuates every year but the percentage of cancellations from our new customers is about the same every year. Even the ratio of cancellations to blowout requests is about the same every year.\u00a0 So far this year for every cancellation we received was followed by 12 new sign-ups.\u00a0 We don’t like cancellations of course, but we do $125,000+ worth of business each blowout season with the cancellations, and it does thin out the herd so to speak so we can get to the patient customers faster. Our long-time customers wait for us because they know their blowout will be done correctly.\u00a0 The companies or private technicians that come around don’t always do them correctly which is job security for us when we are asked to fix whatever issues in the spring they caused.<\/p>\n
Speaking of private technicians, if you do cancel and grab someone else off the street or through a local ad or a sign on a post, verify they have a contractor’s license.\u00a0 If they do not, don’t let them do your blowout.\u00a0 You will have no protection at all if they break something and disappear….<\/p>\n
We had a guy post a comment on our Facebook page with the ad we are running for technicians saying we aren’t paying enough because one can do 4 blowouts per hour all day long.\u00a0 We all got a good laugh out of that one.\u00a0 When you take drive time into consideration, not being able to find valve boxes that are supposed to be uncovered, locked gates, and the time to collect payments and update our online sheet one can get 3 blowouts in an hour in a once in a while, but definitely not all day long.\u00a0 It doesn’t matter if there are 4 houses in a line on a street with 5 zones each you won’t get 4 done in an hour……<\/p>\n
I have decided to close Caldwell to any new requests so that when we finish up Caldwell next week we won’t have to go back again.\u00a0 I will likely do the same thing with Nampa on November 1.<\/p>\n
