I\u2019ve always recommended pre-winterizing your backflow preventers as soon as you stop watering\u2014there\u2019s no reason to wait, regardless of the weather forecast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This advice is essential if you have above-ground backflow preventers or an above-ground filter on a pressurized irrigation system, which should also be emptied. In-ground assemblies won\u2019t be affected for several weeks, and sprinkler piping is generally safe until well into December or even January. Although a cold front is approaching, it\u2019s not expected to last long and should warm up again, as it did after our last brief chill. When temperatures do drop, it typically takes most of the night, with warming starting soon after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On another note, Justin will be away from work for a while to care for his father, who is very ill and needs support until he regains strength. With only about 3-4 weeks left in the season, we hope Justin will be able to return before it ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
