If not, there will be someone available to complete the route.

As always, we appreciate everyone’s patience — it’s hard to run at full speed when the team’s a little banged up, but we’ll get it handled. After all, this isn’t our first rodeo in Sprinkler Blowout Land. 😉END OF UPDATE🚨

How Routes Are Picked in Sprinkler Blowout Land

Every year, people ask me how our routes are picked — and every year, I make a post explaining it. Maybe everyone should read the hundreds upon hundreds of posts I’ve written over the past 15 years we’ve had this blog. That would be quite an endeavor, I know. Still, even though there’s some pretty entertaining reading in a lot of what I post, here’s the quick version of how routes are actually created.

First things first: we make sure every zip code or area gets serviced at least once before we circle back for another round. Otherwise, we’d spend our entire season bouncing between Meridian and Boise 83709 — and that just won’t fly. We track how many blowouts have been completed and how many are still left in each area, giving us a clear percentage of what’s been covered.

When it’s time to service a particular zip code, we look at each zip code sheet, find the oldest sign-up in that zip code, mark it in our mapping software, and then choose about 15–19 nearby addresses to create the route. Often, this captures other long-waiting customers; and other times it picks up newer sign-ups nearby. Once the route is finalized, we put the addresses in a very tight route order, and then send out text notifications to those customers. This process repeats for each area being serviced the next day. We route them so tightly we get 20 locations within 8-12 miles of actual driving.

Now, here’s why we don’t send out notifications earlier than the night before: the list is constantly changing. We get new customers and cancellations every single day. If we built routes too early, we’d risk missing someone right next door who signed up later — meaning they’d have to wait until the next round. Totally unacceptable.

On the flip side, we don’t want to drive all the way to a location that canceled after we already set up the route. That’s wasted fuel, wasted time, and one very annoyed tech. So, it’s a bit of a balancing act — like playing Tetris with addresses that move around all day long.

A Navy pilot told me a year or so ago—or maybe longer; it’s all starting to blend together at this point—that in 30 years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, he’d never seen anything as organized as the system we use to collect, track, execute, and complete thousands of sprinkler blowouts each season. And that includes working with Navy SEALs. You’d think I might know a thing or two about Special Ops. 😉

Here are the routes for today:

Ben with “Leroy” in Ola, Emmett, & Caldwell

Timber Flat Road
N Washington Ave
Blue Topaz Avenue
Henley Street
Annette Street
Red Eagle Way
Armuth Street
Senden Avenue
Dunning Way
Mariposa Street
Blue Ridge Street
Great Falls Avenue
Cherry Street
Chance Street
Lonkey Lane
Greenwing Street
Hanks Way
Conley Way

Challis with “Orange Julius” in Nampa 83686

E Cottage Ave
Hillcrest Way
South Wildrye Way
Fall Place
S Pascoe Ln
South Skyview Drive
West Saser Street
South Aspen Grove Street
W Iowa Ave
Willow Creek Drive
Moose Creek Drive
West Deep Creek Court
S Middle Creek Dr
West Dewey Avenue
West Roosevelt Avenue
West Herron Loop
South Miller Way
W Roanoke River Street
West Redwood River Street
West Vin Santo Drive
West Cross Slope Way

Eddie with “Purple Rain” in Star (then he will start at the bottom of Ben’s list and work up)

West Hercules Drive
South Aries Avenue
North Hidden View Way
West Hollowtree Street
West Aliso Creek Street
W Pavo Court
West Coreopsis Drive
West Mountain Iris Street
West Royal Fern Court
West Gladiola Street
West Wyatt Earp Drive
North Spring Hollow Place
North Burnam Place

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Unfortunately, Challis twisted his ankle pretty badly this morning and won’t be able to finish his route today.
