Challis absolutely rocked Sprinkler Blowout Land yesterday \u2014 finished his entire route in record time and was still begging for more. Naturally, I can\u2019t let that kind of enthusiasm go unrewarded\u2026 so yes, he got more blowouts!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had trimmed everyone\u2019s routes a bit to make up for the sun clocking out early, but Challis\u2019s route was so tight he knocked out 15 blowouts plus an additional 5 with just 4.2 total drive miles. That\u2019s about as efficient as it gets \u2014 part technician, part sprinkler-whisperer. It helps that we are popular enough we rarely have to drive very far between stops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ben, on the other hand, had a bit of a rough patch \u2014 lost about an hour dealing with a personal situation. I caught up with him later to refuel his rig since he was nearly running on fumes. (If you know diesels, you know running one dry is a great way to turn a good day into a very bad one.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He ended up four stops short, but he\u2019ll finish those today. He\u2019s got some personal business to take care of later too, so it\u2019ll be a half-route kind of day \u2014 with Sunday set as his makeup day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I wasn\u2019t planning on anyone working Sunday since it\u2019s Sheila\u2019s birthday<\/strong>, and I wanted to give her the attention she deserves. Every year she steps aside a bit so \u201cthe job can go on,\u201d but that doesn\u2019t mean I have to like it. Sometimes business and life overlap \u2014 but family still wins the day in my book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her birthday party is Saturday evening, so I\u2019ll be working on Ben\u2019s route early that morning to get everything lined out before the festivities. Once that\u2019s squared away, I\u2019ll shift gears from compressors and valves to cake and candles \u2014 priorities, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n And then there\u2019s Eddie \u2014 who once again knocked his route clean out of the park. The guy runs everywhere he goes, eats clean, and does all the \u201chealthy living\u201d things I\u2019ve long since retired from.
