At The Maintenance Shop, we believe in making thoughtful, well-researched decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when it came time to choose a spokesperson, we didn\u2019t just pick the first critter that wandered onto the jobsite. No sir. We evaluated options carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We considered several candidates. Some were rejected immediately (looking at you, squirrels\u2026 way too much chaos). Others showed promise but lacked real-world experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then there was the gecko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, to be fair, geckos have done quite well for themselves in certain industries. They\u2019re polite. They\u2019re well-spoken. They\u2019ve got that calm, reassuring tone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when we asked the important question\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCan you handle real work?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things got\u2026 quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gecko Problem<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s break it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geckos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Stick to walls<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Make chirping sounds<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Are approximately the size of a socket wrench<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    All impressive in their own way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Getting into tight spaces<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Actually fixing something<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      We started to notice a gap in qualifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      We even ran a field test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      We placed a gecko next to a piece of equipment and said,
      \u201cGo ahead\u2014take a look.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      To his credit, he stayed calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      He also stayed completely still.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      For a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        They see a situation and think:
        \u201cAlright\u2026 let\u2019s figure this out.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Which, coincidentally, is exactly how we approach our work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Built for the Job<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        A raccoon\u2019s front paws are incredibly dexterous (hence the name Dexterity \u201cDo-It-All\u201d Raccoon<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        They can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        • Grip<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Turn<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Pull<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Adjust<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          In other words\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          They come pre-equipped for problem-solving.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          We didn\u2019t have to teach Dexter how to get into tight spaces or work through a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          He already knew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          (We did, however, have a brief conversation about staying out of tool bags without permission.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Real-World Experience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          Let\u2019s be honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          If something goes wrong around the house, you don\u2019t want:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • A spokesperson<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • A mascot<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Or a well-dressed lizard giving commentary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            You want someone who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            • Figures it out<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Gets it done right<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              That\u2019s what Dexter represents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              No script. No gimmicks. No wall-climbing required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Final Verdict<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

              After careful consideration, extensive testing, and one mildly chaotic evening involving a trash can (which we\u2019ve agreed not to discuss), the decision was clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Raccoon > Gecko (for actual work)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
