Sprinkler Blowouts For Friday, November 7, 2025

Challis absolutely rocked Sprinkler Blowout Land yesterday — finished his entire route in record time and was still begging for more. Naturally, I can’t let that kind of enthusiasm go unrewarded… so yes, he got more blowouts!

I had trimmed everyone’s routes a bit to make up for the sun clocking out early, but Challis’s route was so tight he knocked out his scheduled 15 blowouts plus 5 additional with just 4.2 total drive miles. That’s about as efficient as it gets — part technician, part sprinkler-whisperer. It does help that we are popular enough that we density is our friend.

Ben, on the other hand, had a bit of a rough patch — lost about an hour dealing with a personal situation. I caught up with him later to refuel his rig since he was nearly running on fumes. (If you know diesels, you know running one dry is a great way to turn a good day into a very bad one.)

He ended up four stops short, but he’ll finish those today. He’s got some personal business to take care of later too, so it’ll be a half-route kind of day — with Sunday set as his makeup day.

I wasn’t planning on anyone working Sunday since it’s Sheila’s birthday, and I wanted to give her the attention she deserves. Every year she steps aside a bit so “the job can go on,” but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Sometimes business and life overlap — but family still wins the day in my book.

Her birthday party is Saturday evening, so I’ll be working on Ben’s route early that morning to get everything lined out before the festivities. Once that’s squared away, I’ll shift gears from compressors and valves to cake and candles — priorities, right?

And then there’s Eddie — who once again knocked his route clean out of the park. The guy runs everywhere he goes, eats clean, and does all the “healthy living” things I’ve long since retired from. Meanwhile, I’m sitting at my desk guzzling Coke Zero like it’s water — which technically, I guess, it mostly is… so that still counts as staying hydrated, right?
