🎃 Halloween in Sprinkler Blowout Land 🎃
Yesterday went smoothly in Sprinkler Blowout Land — no ghosts in the machines, just the usual locked gates and a couple of systems that will need new main and drain valves before startup in the spring.
Since it’s Halloween today, the timing feels fitting. Those new lead-free valves are scary enough on their own — they’ll drain a wallet faster than a vampire drains a vein. Manufacturers caught on to the demand faster than a witch on a broomstick and raised prices accordingly.
We replace around 40 of these each season, more than anyone else in the Treasure Valley, so we’ve got it down to a science. No tricks here — just treats in the form of working sprinkler systems and happy customers. 👻
Halloween tends to bring out the “creative thinkers” — and I don’t mean the kind who carve pumpkins. One of my last personal blowout routes about five or six years ago was in Nampa, and it turned into something straight out of a Halloween special. Within an hour, I had two different run-ins with guys who were clearly missing a few bricks from their load and thought it’d be a good idea to threaten me.
In one case, the guy called me “Homey” and reached behind his back like he had a gun. I calmly advised him that it would be a very bad life choice — let’s just say I made my point clear, and he decided to find somewhere else to be.
Hopefully, this year stays quiet, and my guys don’t have to deal with anything spooky besides the occasional fog machine or plastic skeleton. Sheila has outdone herself with our front-yard setup again — everything from lights, a larger-than-life skeleton, and a movie that seems to appear out of thin air. Bring the kiddos by tonight for some goodies and a cool show — it’s all treats, no tricks (we hope). 👻

🎃 The team will be dressed up today as “Sprinkler Blowout Technicians.” 🎃
It’s a rare costume that requires a compressor, hose reel, and a faint smell of wet grass to pull off convincingly. I’m sure they wouldn’t object to a piece of candy (or ten) along the way—especially if it helps them keep their energy up while they’re out saving sprinklers one system at a time.
