Sprinkler Blowouts For Thursday, November 6, 2025

Since y’all know how dear the time change is to me every year, I thought it was only fitting to write this little ditty:

💨 “The Sound of Silence (Sprinkler Blowout Edition)”

Hello darkness, you’re not my friend,
You show up early once again.
The sun went down before we finished,
Another daylight hour diminished.
And the echo of compressors in the night,
Still feels right —
Within the sound… of silence.

Through quiet yards I walk alone,
My headlamp casting shadows long.
The hum of hoses cuts the still night,
As daylight fades beyond my sight.
And the schedule, like the sunset, slips away —
At close of day —
Within the sound… of silence.

I trace the valves, the main and drain,
The steady rhythm dulls the strain.
Each puff of air a small reminder,
That time grows short, the nights grow kinder.
And the pulse of work that hums beneath the sky,
Tells me why —
I chase the sound… of silence.

Beneath the trees my engine roars,
While neighbors peek through closing doors.
Each hiss of air, a job completed,
Each note of pressure, cleanly greeted.
And the soft return of quiet through the street,
Feels complete —
Within the sound… of silence.

Then daylight bows and slips away,
Another long and grateful day.
I pack the hose, the stars awaken,
This life of work cannot be shaken.
And in that hush where hard work meets the night,
Feels just right —
Within the sound… of silence.

We had a solid day yesterday — everyone wrapped up their routes except for three or four jobs we’re rolling into today. Not bad at all, considering daylight seems to clock out before we do.

It’s getting tougher to hit that 20-per-tech goal without working the guys to death (or turning them into night owls with headlamps). Normally, I scale things back to 15 a day around November 10, but thanks to the early time change, we’re calling that audible a little sooner this year.

Mother Nature’s running the clock, and we’re just trying to keep up — one sprinkler at a time.

We’re still hoping to find one more tech to help us finish out the season strong. I’d really like to take a bit of the load off the crew before one of them passes out in the street with an air hose still in hand.

The last thing I need is to find one of them sitting in a corner, blubbering to themselves and making that brrrrrrr sound while running a finger over their lips.

If you know someone who can handle a compressor, keep up the pace, and laugh through the chaos, send them our way — we’ve got air, humor, and plenty of work left to go around.
