I am way behind schedule for routing and posting today. I kept getting interrupted by little goblins, witches, monsters, etc., for about 3 hours.
October went by too quickly. That means we have 4 more weeks of this torture we call sprinkler blowouts. It’s a hard life for 7-9 weeks in the fall, but we reward the techs by taking them and a significant other out to dinner at Tucanos. We have done that for several years now. We use the leftover gift cards of $25 each to go toward a drawing for those who leave us a review at our two locations on Google, as well as the BBB, Yelp, and Next Door. I am not a fan of Yelp, but they are here to stay. Every review we get is worth 1 chance at winning the gift cards. Last year, one of our customers left a review at 4-5 different places and won a gift card. We hand deliver to the winners.
I have closed down several more areas to new requests, but wouldn’t you know it, we received two dozen requests yesterday from closed areas anyway. (Put Scooby Doo’s “huh?” sound here.)
The weather is getting cooler, and I get texts all day long worrying about frozen pipes. I am guessing the majority aren’t from around here, and when it is 60 degrees they put on a parka, (yes, I have seen that on more than one occasion.) When you are putting on your parka just remember that it takes quite some time for freezing temperatures to reach sprinkler piping. It’s just a matter of simple physics. Last year on December 7 I put a thermometer in the ground and it was 34 degrees 6 inches down. Definitely not freezing. We have done blowouts even with snow on the ground. Snow is a good insulator.
