Sprinkler Blowouts For Friday, October 17, 2025

Yesterday was a decent day in Sprinkler Blowout Land. I interviewed a new guy who will shadow Joe today to brush up, especially on how we handle paperwork and billing. Hopefully, we’ll send him off on his own on Saturday. I had another interview set up for yesterday afternoon, and it was another no-show.

I picked up our new reel and hose yesterday afternoon. That put nearly a $1,000 dent in my bank account….. Hopefully, In the next few days or so, I can get Jesse over to our shop and cut off the welds of the old reel and bolt/weld the new reel in its place. It will be nice to have Orange Julius back on the road again. If only we had someone to run it. I am still plugging away, going through candidates from ZipRecruiter and Indeed. No matter how I set the parameters in both programs, I have to weed through a crapton of unqualified responses to get to the good ones.

Unfortunately, Ben won’t be working today. His wife came down with strep throat, and the kids are home from school, so Ben’s on dad duty wrangling the little ones — including a baby, if I remember right. My wife Sheila could catch strep from someone over the phone. Me, on the other hand, I think I’m immune. I’ve been around plenty of people with both strep and mono — including Sheila — and still haven’t caught a thing. Either I’ve got the immune system of a superhero, or the germs just take one look and decide to move on to easier prey. Personally, I think it’s all the onions, jalapeños, and Sriracha I eat. Maybe I should bottle whatever’s in my blood and sell it on Amazon — “Now available in Extra Spicy.” 🌶️

I apologize I haven’t gotten the calendar updated like I want. With all the upheaval of finding fresh blood to run our machines, I don’t dare plan more than a few days at a time. Just because your zip code isn’t showing at the moment doesn’t mean we aren’t going there.

Also, I need to point out that when we’re in a particular zip code for the day, we won’t get to everyone in that zip code—it’s physically impossible with our workload. What I can tell you is we will get to you. Some areas have 50–100 requests, and there just isn’t enough daylight (or caffeine) in a day to knock them all out at once.

Customers have asked why we don’t just stay in one zip code until the area is finished. The truth is, if we did that—especially in Meridian or the 83709—we’d still be there come Christmas. Maybe even next Christmas. We’d have to set up tents, start a food truck, and forward our mail there to keep up. 🎄 Presenting… The Blowout Burrito Bus! 🌮💨“We Blow Out Your Sprinklers, You Blow Out Your Britches.”

    Love the Burrito Bus!

I am glad you still find a few minutes to find humor in what you do! I have been a long term customer, and my own boss for a time. I know what you are going through, and at this point do not envy you at all! f I was physically able, I would be a great candidate for a job, but alas, my body said enough physical labor last year and all but killed me.

It does not get said enough, but thank you for all you do, it is a tedious job trying to make everyone happy all the time and honestly it truly is impossible. So thank you for finding a balance, and again for the humor! Keep driving forward!

… and when are you going to do my sprinklers?? (hahahaha) 🙂 🙂 …

Haha, glad you love The Blowout Burrito Bus! 🌯💨
You nailed it — trying to make everyone happy in Sprinkler Blowout Land is a bit like trying to juggle flaming burritos while riding a unicycle on an Idaho road. But hey, somebody’s gotta do it!

Seriously though, thank you for the kind words. It means a lot hearing that from someone who’s been in the trenches before. We know this job isn’t for the faint of heart (or the weak of back). I’m glad you’re still following along — and don’t worry, we’ll get to your sprinklers before the snow flies. 😉
