Sprinkler Blowouts For Friday, October 8, 2021

UPDATE: 7:57 A.M.

Jerry won’t be in today.  Apparently, he has been throwing up all night.  We will continue his route on another day. When I get more info I will post.

END OF UPDATE

We made it to Friday!  It was an interesting week.  From Jesse finding snakes (twice in one day and once the following day. See our Facebook post…..) in valve boxes to systems that looked like Tetris, Illegally installed backflow preventers, people connecting their hose line on the house straight to their sprinkler system since their irrigation was turned off, and more adventures.  By the way, hooking a hose from your house water to your sprinkler system is a no-no unless you have a backflow preventer between the water source and the irrigation line. If you get caught you could get a hefty fine or have your water turned off.

Jesse finished our current list of the Boise 83712 and all the guys finished the 83704.  I guess I should say they went to every home on the list but found some that either had locked gates or couldn’t find the valves or main connection. We will work our way through the area again for them and new ones that come in as soon as we make the first appearance in other areas.

I haven’t heard anything back on our “Green Machine”, so I am going to check in with them later today and find out how much it is going to cost me.  I have a dilemma because I want to advertise to get another technician, but I really shouldn’t do that until I know the extent of the damage.  Right now we are doing fine with 3 compressors since we were able to start early.  We have already completed 867 blowouts which are more than half of our current list.  That will change though.  I expect another 2,000 blowouts to come through over the next 3o days.  It would be really nice to have the 4th machine running to give us another 20-25 blowouts completed per day.

So, the moment you’ve all been waiting for…..

MISSED. Multi year customer, signed up early. I was missed in 83704 the last two days. You and Jesse have been here many times so hookup location can’t be problem.

Nope, hook up isn’t the problem. We haven’t received a request from you for this year or you would have been taken care of. If you signed up it didn’t go through. Betting you didn’t get a confirmation email? Sign up with this link and we will work you in our next trip the your zip code: https://forms.gle/ucK86PLWKdNuwYMg7

Do you have a date for Caldwell yet? I’m new to Idaho and submitted my request 10/1, so not sure the turnaround times. Thanks

We just left Caldwell right before you signed up, but we will be back. We make several passes around the valley for the next 7-8 weeks depending on the workload. We need to get to the areas we haven’t been to yet before we circle around again.

Will there be a problem if we get freezing temperatures and the system hasn’t been blown out?

Generally no, not for several weeks or longer. It takes a LONG time for the cold to cool the ground deep enough where sprinkler piping is. Last year I did a temperature check in my front yard in mid-December and the temperature 6″ down was only 35 degrees. Not even sure it got to freezing underground last year. This is why we can do sprinkler blowouts clear into the first week of December or so even though by then we are tired and like to be finished. We finished the day before Thanksgiving last year only because after a while I shut down our form to new requests and just finished what we already had. As most of our long-time customers know, I don’t blow out my own sprinklers until Thanksgiving Day because it is the only free time I have during the season.

I say generally no because if you have a backflow preventer that is above ground it could freeze if the temperature drops quick enough and stays there for several hours. That’s easy enough to avoid by following the instructions on our site on how to pre-winterize your backflow while waiting for a sprinkler blowout. There is also a section on pre-winterizing pumps, zone valves, and even filters for those on pressurized irrigation.
