Sprinkler Blowouts For Friday, November 6, 2026

📋 “I Was Only Inquiring”

A customer questioned his sprinkler blowout invoice, explaining that he had only filled out our form to inquire about service.

The form is titled “Sprinkler Blowout REQUEST Form.”

Directly below that, in bold lettering, it says:

“By Filling Out And Sending This Form I Am Requesting A Sprinkler Blowout — Not A Quote — Pricing Is Clearly Visible On This Form.”

I’m beginning to wonder whether I need to add a small marching band to that section. Although someone would probably complain that the trombone was blocking the instructions.

The customer also said no appointment had been made and that he wouldn’t be paying the invoice.

Our scheduling process is explained in the terms: we do not make individual appointments. We send an email and text notification the evening before service. His notification email was sent at 9:38 p.m. the night before.

We also had our October 14 text conversation and Eddie’s documentation of the completed work.

Then came the explanation that the system had already been winterized.

We need to know that before we start. If nobody has canceled the request or is there to tell us, the technician proceeds with the service on the list.

By the time we discover a system may have already been blown out, we are already hooked up, the compressor is running, and air is moving through the system. At that point, the trip has been made, the equipment is operating, and the work is underway.

That means the blowout charge applies. Discovering it halfway through does not turn the visit into a free demonstration.

Our compressors have many useful features. Unfortunately, detecting work performed by another company before we arrive is not one of them.

So I stopped what I was doing and assembled the records. Apparently, every sprinkler blowout now comes with the possibility of a bonus assignment: prepare a documentary proving the sprinkler blowout happened.

After reviewing the documentation, the customer replied:

“Got it, my mistake. Thanks.”

He also paid the invoice. I appreciate both the acknowledgment and the payment.

But gathering and sending that documentation still takes time—time that otherwise goes to routing, answering service questions, and taking care of everyone.

Also, I was working remotely while helping keep an eye on my 82-year-old mother-in-law following her hip replacement. The office travels with me. Unfortunately, so does the paperwork.

Please read the form and terms, review your notifications, and cancel your request if service is no longer needed. Those steps save everyone an unnecessary visit and a considerably longer conversation afterward.

In the meantime, I’ll price out the marching band.

The trombone player will need to agree to our terms.
